Ignition Woes Possile fix 1
I have been having some missing problems at idle and have been trying to work our what is causing this. After alot of research on the web i have a few possible
causes.. Since I have upgraded the ignition to HEI / EFI I noticed a few articles about cross fire in the dizzy from one cylinder to another.. The closest
article I have fould was a HEI upgrade for a Jeep 6 Cyl from standard to HEI see article.
Basically a largerspace between cylinders is needed to stop closs fire because of the much larger spark voltage..

Because my car has been in the garage for so long its getting often start ups and idling for a long time the plugs look a but black so we may have miss
fire purely because of stuffed plugs.. I purchased a new set yesterday and will try them this week.. If I still have a missfire I will replace the HEI coil
with standard coil triggered by ignition module and see what happens then ( possibly cross fire as stated above ) I purchased a set of Bosch W8DC plugs
the standard plugs for a hemi and also the standard plugs for he JE camira ( luck ) Although I have noticed that most later model cars like for example
FORD XE to XF ( XF HEI ) use a different plug.. I have to look but i don't thin the 2-3mm longer plug for the XF will pit the piston on the hemi.. this
plug is used in almost all of the late model 6 Cyl fords now.. so i guess there was a change for a reason..

Leads.. They are brand new performace lead but I will need to check to see if they are actually compatible with HEI i will be pissed off if they are not..
and they are brand new and not used
Ignition Woes Possile fix 4 ( thanks gmh265 at performaceforums.com )
It has been suggested that the polarity of the wired that go from the dizzy to the ignition module maybe reversed. Well this is possible as i have changed
them before but never really knew what way was correct after all they never came out factory so there isn't any wiring diagrams for them.. GMH265 at performace
forums mentioned he had this problem so atleast I know for a fact another hemi owner has had problems so its more important then i though after all.. It
seems to run either way but I get a backfire when i rev it so maybe its just a matter of swapping the wires..
Ignition Woes Possile fix 4
Some time ago I emailed fome chap that had put delco EFI on a KE25 Corolla he also used the same camira HEI ignition module and said he has all sorts of
problems based on the length of the wire between the module and the dizzy ( after all they were sugosed to be mounted inside the dizzy not on the firewayy
like where i have it.. I wil try everything else first then if not i wil have to move it ( some how ).
New Dizzy Maybe ( ReBorn VK carby model )
I have been hearing rumors that the VK commodore dizzy fits into the hemi block.. Had to try for myself so I went down to my local pick and pull and
got a VK carby EST dizzy complete with rotor cap and leads i stole off a ford EA or something as the VK ones were too short.. the guy at the counter didn't
care all up $39 oh $1 entry so a cool 40 smackers ! not bad
first up it looked like it would just go straight in but after i got home i seel the length is out by about 5mm so i went about destroying I mean dismantling
it along with destroying a old hemi dizzy i had lying about. I will update some pics soon but after some stuffing around I can use the shaft from the hemi
and with a grind here and a weld there it all looks possible. some chap from a forum mopar market or performanceforums has some this ended up cutting and
welding so atleast i know its possible. I still need the top part from the XF ford dizzy which is compatible with the delco VNV8 ignition module. I know
this cause i done it before on my mates XEGhia6 I couldn't manage to get the dizzy out of the car on my lunch break
so I will have to bring some open enders to work and try again tomorrow maybe if its not raining.
I FIXED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After all the troubles i had the Ref angle set incorrecly on Kalmaker I did know i needed to have it set to 10 deg but i loaded up another cal that
was default of 70 deg and forgot to change it. Even in module mode i had backfire through carby problems these turned out to be carby problems I have since
rebuilt the carby and its all perfect..
Coil Pack is the next Project..
I got a old harmonic balancer from a Vn V6 commodore that i have pulled apart to install the timing slots onto the hemi crank. Picture again will follow
very soon.. this looks like a very cool upgrade its late 2am i better goto bed. updates soon.. ( 23/11/2003 )
